Ever walked down Pub Street and seen that big blue neon X? That’s X Bar! Have you ever dreamed of skateboarding on a rooftop half-pipe while drinking a shot of Fireball and watching a fire show at 2am? Well… Now you can. X-bar has been a staple of the Siem Reap nightlife scene since 2007, with it’s two-tiered open rooftop bar at the end of Pub Street Siem Reap, home of the famous Angkor Wat temple complex.
The most famous feature of X Bar is course is the full sized half-pipe skate ramp on the 2nd level of the bar which gives incredible views of Pub Street and Siem Reap town, and has it’s claim to fame as being the ramp that Tony Hawk himself skated on during a visit to Cambodia several years ago! If you travelled light and forgot to pack your own skateboard, ask at the bar as the staff are more than happy to let you borrow one!
X-bar is open from 7pm until the early hours of the morning and there’s an atmosphere for everyone depending on what time you head up. Early evening you’ll get a nice chilled atmosphere with great music playing, and you’ll be able to keep yourself busy with the games tables including foosball, air hockey, pool and of course… Beer pong.
With happy hour until 10pm you’ll be able to get buy one get one free on house cocktails, though X bar often has many other promotions running so there’s definitely some bargains to be had. (Not to mention, 6 shots for only $10 all night long!). Sit along the balcony edge for a great view that faces all the way down Pub Street Siem Reap so you can get some great people-watching in.
This place tends to get really pumping and has more nightclub vibes from around 10pm onwards, when the bar will fill up and there’ll be no shortage of other backpackers drinking buckets and having fun, especially as many of the Siem Reap pub crawls have made this one of their stops due to it’s great party atmosphere. With both local and international DJ’s on rotation, the music will get everyone dancing and living their best life, right up until the moment they wake up with a hangover!
If you’re lucky, you’ll end up in the bar on one of their frequent entertainment nights, including fire shows or one of their excellent live music events. Two standout events hosted in 2023 included Slam City, an all evening metal festival, or Punkacolypse which had a mix of international punk and metal bands playing.
X bar has a massive selection of beers, spirits and cocktails, with beers starting from $1.25 and spirits being very reasonably priced and a little bit lower than other similar venues in town. Or if you’ve had one of those days, make it a bucket and get plenty of booze at an even more cost effective price. TOP TIP: If you’re wandering around Pub Street Siem Reap before you head up, you’ll probably run into one of their flyering staff, who’ll give you an X-Bar flyer that gets you a FREE welcome shot!
X bar also plays live sports on their large screen projector when available.
