Cambodia Visas in 2026 – Complete Guide (Easy, Updated & No Nonsense)

Planning a trip to Cambodia? Whether you’re heading to Siem Reap to explore the Angkor Wat temples, chilling on the coastline, cruising the Mekong, or moving here long-term, this Cambodia visa guide has everything you need in one place – from eVisas to visa on arrival, costs, rules, extensions and handy tips for 2026.

Can’t decide whether you should get a Cambodia eVisa or get a visa on arrival for Cambodia?

There is a lot of outdated online in regards to the current visa situation for Cambodia, so we decided to make it easy for you! The visa you require (and how to obtain it) will depend on a few factors such as how long you intend to stay and what you intend to do whilst you’re in Cambodia. Below, we’ve outlined the various options available. Whether you’re coming for tourism, or intending to move to Cambodia for work or retirement, read on to find out your options and how to get a Cambodia visa.

What Is a Cambodia Visa?

A Cambodia visa is an official travel document that most visitors need before entering the country, so if you’re coming to see Angkor Wat, backpacking around Southeast Asia, or planning on moving to your new home, read on.

Cambodia’s visa system is simple: you can either apply online (Cambodia eVisa) or get it on arrival at airports and land borders. There’s also a recently introduced mandatory e-Arrival Card system that all travellers must complete if arriving by air.

Obtaining a Cambodia visa, and renewing it for long lengths of time, is one of the easiest processes among Southeast Asian visas.

Cambodia eVisa – Easy Online Entry

What is the eVisa?

The Cambodia eVisa is an online tourist or business visa you apply for before you leave home. Once approved, you get a PDF visa you can print or show on your phone at immigration – no queues for visa on arrival required which can save you a bit of time, and give you peace of mind.

How It Works

1 – Go to the official government site: evisa.gov.kh (DO NOT use third party sites! They’re unreliable and will try to charge you more than the official amount)

2 – Fill in your passport details and details of your arrival and departure dates

3 – Upload a recent photo and passport page scan.

3 – Pay the visa fee securely online. There used to be an additonal charge for buying your eVisa in advance with credit card – but this has now been scrapped! Your visa will cost the same regardless of if you buy an eVisa in advance, or get a Cambodia visa on arrival.

You’ll usually receive your eVisa in about 3 business days if everything is correct. If you apply for your eVisa too far in advance, it won’t be processed until nearer your arrival date. You will still receive a confirmation email though, don’t fret! Just be patient and wait until closer to your arrival date.

You can also obtain your Cambodia visa through the Cambodia e-Arrivals app (detailed below)

Cambodia eVisa Fees (Official Government Rates)

Tourist Visa (Type T): $30 USD

Ordinary Visa (Type E): $35 USD (Sometimes referred to as a “Business Visa“)

👉 Both visas allow an initial 30 day stay from the date you enter Cambodia. Details on extending your visa are shown later in this article.

Remember: Some third party websites charge much more (sometimes $60-$120+!) – you don’t need this extra service if you go straight to the official site.

Best Time to Apply for Cambodia eVisa

Personally I recommend applying at least 7 days before travel to avoid stress if you’re doing an eVisa – airlines sometimes ask to see the visa before boarding. If you apply more than 60 days in advance of your arrival date, it will not be processed until nearer the time – don’t be alarmed!

Cambodia Visa On Arrival – Fast & Flexible

If you haven’t got time to apply online, you can get a visa on arrival at all international airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville) and popular land borders like Poipet and Bavet.

At the time of writing, ALL border crossings between Thailand and Cambodia are CLOSED for an unknown amount of time due to the Thailand Cambodia border conflict. We will update this if the situation changes.

Both the tourist visa and ordinary (E-Type) visa can be obtained on arrival. ($30 and $35 respectively)

How to Get Visa on Arrival

Bring your passport (valid for at least 6 months) and $30 USD in clean, undamaged bills. ($35 if applying for ordinary/business visa). If you’re travelling to Cambodia via one of the international airports (Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville) – you can now pay for your Cambodia visa with credit card.

Head to the visa counter to fill out the visa form and make payment. If you haven’t already completed your e-Arrival Card (detailed below) and you’re arriving by air, you’ll then need to head to one of the available tablet computers to fill this out and get your e-Arrival QR code. If you’re arriving by land, there will be paper versions for you to fill out.

When you fill out your visa form you’ll be given the option to choose between the Ordinary (E Type) or Tourist (T Type) Visa.

Then you head to the immigration counters, say hello with a smile, and prepare for your time in Cambodia!

This is one of the easiest options and often takes less than 10-20 minutes in normal conditions.
NOTE: You no longer need to provide 2 physical passport photos which some websites state you need. This requirement has been scrapped.

Can Anyone Get Cambodia Visa on Arrival?

Some countries are unable to get visa on arrival and must arrange their Cambodia eVisa online in advance via the official government website. These countries are Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Nigeria and Algeria.

e-Arrival Card and app – New Requirement (Air Travel)

As of the latest rules, if you arrive by air, you must complete the Cambodia e-Arrival Card online within 7 days before your flight – even if you already have an eVisa or plan to get visa on arrival. This is part of the recent efforts to completely digitise the Cambodia visa system.

👉 This replaces the old paper landing card and links to your passport electronically. Immigration at the airport will scan the QR code that’s generated for you. (Though they don’t always ask for this, as it shows up on their system when they scan your passport).

Tip: Do this before you arrive – it’s quick and saves time on arrival. If you don’t complete this in advance you’ll have to join an additional queue on arrival to fill it out on the tablet computers provided.

Download the following app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store or complete the form online on the offical Cambodia visa site linked above.

Visa Exemptions – Do You Need a Visa for Cambodia?

Some nationalities don’t need a visa for short stays.

11 countries are currently visa exempt for Cambodia and do not need a visa. These countries are Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Philippines, Seychelles, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Length of visa exemption varies by country, from 14 to 30 days in length. These countries will not need to apply for a Cambodia visa or get a visa on arrival.

Always check official government sources before you travel, as rules can change.

Extending Your Visa Inside Cambodia

If you fall in love with the country and want to stay longer (which we see all the time!):

Tourist Visa Extensions

You can extend a Tourist visa (T-type) once only, for an additional 30 days.

This gives you a total of up to 60 days in Cambodia.

Business/Ordinary Visa Extensions

If you have an E-type Cambodia visa, you can extend for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months inside Cambodia. For those who are living/working in Cambodia, the 1 year extension can be repeated indefinitely, leading to as long of a stay in Cambodia as you wish.

This is ideal for nomads, remote workers, retirees or those just planning a longer stay. The type of extension you get will depend on whether you’re of retirement age, or still working. (Retirement age in Cambodia for visa purposes is 55, though the retirement visa can be obtained at younger ages if you fit the requirements.)

Extensions can be done yourself at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh, or if you want to keep things nice and simple – just use an agent! There are many visa agents in every city across Cambodia. Extensions can be arranged at the majority of travel agents. Whilst this is slightly more expensive, trust us when we say this option is far easier and definitely worth the small added cost.

If you’re in Cambodia, and looking for work, you may be granted a 3 month “looking for work” extension. Extensions of 6 months or greater will require documentation such as proof of employment letters and work permits, or proof of retirement etc. An agent can help you in obtaining these documents.

Common Questions (FAQ)

How Can I Pay for my Cambodia Visa on arrival? Do They Accept Credit Card?

If you’re arriving by air, you can now pay for your Cambodia visa with either cash or credit card. This applies at the international airports in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.

If you’re arriving by land crossing and do not have an eVisa, you will need to pay cash, in clean, undamaged USD bills. We recommend having the exact amount ready.

Do I Need to Show Proof of Onward Travel for my Cambodia Visa?

Whilst this is technically a requirement, it is not always asked that you show this. Those from certain higher risk countries are more likely to be asked to show proof of onward travel to be accepted for their Cambodia visa. As always, we recommend you play it safe and have this ready to show.

Can I enter Cambodia without a visa?

Only if your country is on the visa exempt list (mostly ASEAN passports). Everyone else needs an eVisa or visa on arrival.

Is the visa approval guaranteed?

No. Visa approval is at the discretion of immigration authorities – but refusals are rare for standard tourist visas. Always use the official eVisa site. Some nationalities will be subject to higher levels of scrutiny, notably those carrying passports from India, Bangladesh or certain african nations. Make sure you’ve filled out your visa applicaton truthfully and have all of the official requirements.

It is entirely at the immigration officers discretion as to whether you are allowed to enter Cambodia.

Can I extend my tourist visa more than once?

No – tourist visas are only extendable once, giving a maximum stay of 60 days total per trip.
