Since February 2016, Fresh Fruit Factory restaurant Siem Reap, located on Taphul Road (a short walk from Pub Street) has been providing the town with the best in local produce and delicious meals. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you walk past the well kept plants and are likely greeted by one of the super friendly Japanese owners or their many cats! If you’re coming to Krong Siem Reap to visit the world famous Angkor Wat temple complex, don’t miss out on some of the great food town has to offer.
Fresh Fruit Factory restaurant Siem Reap is open from 11am until 7pm Tuesday til Sunday. It is not air conditioned but there’s plenty of fans, and with the high roof it stays a comfortable temperature. There’s ample seating and usually some nice music playing in the background for ambiance. It is a short walk from Siem Reap Night Market and plenty of other great things to do in Siem Reap.
The food here is delicious and you can really tell that the owners take pride in what they do. Our personal favourite is the Egg Sandwich, and it’s without a doubt the best we’ve had in a restaurant. Seriously, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t try it! The portion is large, with an incredibly generous helping of filling. It also comes with a little side bowl of scooped fresh mango which we think is an excellent touch.
We like to pair this with one of their fresh fruit smoothies, which although are a touch more expensive than usual for Siem Reap, are high quality and worth the money. The Cold Style Pasta Carbonara is excellent, and something we hadn’t tried before.
They’re also popular for their massive Shaved Ice Mountains which (of course!) come with generous fresh fruit toppings.
If fresh, tasty food and a relaxing environment isn’t enough for you, Fresh Fruit Factory cafe in Siem Reap is heavily involved with the local community, and this is something we value when looking for Siem Reap’s best businesses. They close every Monday, so they can do their weekly litter pick along Taphul Road, helping to keep the local environment clean and creating a better town for those who live here.
This is what they call their “PICK UP THE FUTURE” project, one of two projects they’re working on to maintain a high level of social responsibility with their restaurant. The second project, “CREATE THE FUTURE” is a social enterprise related to the production and sale of cashew nuts, which is explained in this excerpt from their website (fruitcambodia.com);
“We are delivering the delicious, healthy and meaningful cashew nuts in our restaurant. The products are produced by a local community near the Sambor Prei Kuk temple site which is nominated as the 3rd World Heritage site in Cambodia in July 2017.
The challenge was started in 2013 by support of ADB and private funds as one part of a project to create small scale industry in the community. After their support, it became independent, and now it is running by local community members with more than 100 households in 7 villages.
This cashew nuts generate not only income but also relationships in the community and it has power to create the future for the community. Fresh Fruit Factory encourage this community by creating the bridge to you.”
Naturally, due to the type of cuisine on offer here, there is plenty of selection for those on a vegetarian diet, so when you’re in Siem Reap be sure to head here for a healthy meal after a long day of visiting temples or floating villages!
When you’re full, don’t forget to grab yourself a bag of the locally produced cashew nuts, or some of the fresh black pepper to take with you as these make excellent gifts and help give back to the local community.
