So who are the best YouTubers in Cambodia? Today we’re going to be talking about our top 5 favourite channels that we think you should be following! Whether you’re coming here for a visit and want to hear all about the best tips and tricks, or you’re thinking of moving here and want to know more about what life is like as an expat in Cambodia, these guys have you covered! From news updates, Khmer language lessons, advice on what to do or where to eat, or simply just to see how other people spend their time whilst living here!
1; Itchy Feet On The Cheap
This channel is run by Ryan, a Canadian who has lived abroad for the past 8 years with his partner Sara (who often makes an appearance in his videos!). They’re an incredibly well travelled couple and have lived in various countries across the world, currently being settled in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Ryan’s videos vary a lot in topic which is one of the reasons we love his channel so much.
His videos cover different parts of life here such as the cost of living in Phnom Penh or the practical aspects of day to day life but he also has a lot of travel videos from other parts of Cambodia and the rest of the world. If you dig deep enough you might also stumble across a video of some monkeys breaking up a cat fight, and who doesn’t want to see that?
His videos don’t all follow a set formula like many big YouTubers so every video is different which is great. He’s also very entertaining to watch as he has mastered the art of making his videos humorous without seeming forced and he’s very knowledgable about the topics he talks about. Ryan is a great resource if you’re living here, or planning to, or even if you’re just curious about what it’s like here! Actually, I also advise watching his videos even if you don’t ever plan to go to Cambodia, they’re just fun.
2; For Riel
For Riel, run by Australian expats Jeremy and Claire, is one of the best Youtube resources for people who live in Cambodia. Their most famed videos are their weekly “newsmoto” videos, which involve video recordings of peaceful drives around Krong Siem Reap (or sometimes other parts of Cambodia when they’ve been sent videos to use!) whilst Claire does a voiceover giving a run down of that weeks most prominent news stories.
Their newsmoto videos will take you on a deep dive around town, including Pub Street Siem Reap, the Angkor Wat temple complex and out into the Cambodian countryside.
As of August 2024, the weekly newsmoto is going to become a monthly newsmoto video, so the guys can focus more on their long form video content. Jeremy and Claire have lived in Cambodia since 2019 (with a brief stint back in Australia in 2022) and have lived in Kampot, Kep, Phnom Penh and have now settled in Siem Reap.
They also have other types of videos on their channel which cover all the aspects of life here with topics such as apartment hunting, cost of living, events and interesting attractions you can find in Cambodia. If you’re interested in Cambodian news but want to hear the interesting bits and have it explained to you with personality, this is the channel for you!
Their channel was monetised in February 2021, and since then they’ve been donating 100% of the profits from their Youtube channel to charitable organisations that support local causes, which is an excellent reason in itself to check out their videos! So far, they’ve already raised over $7000 USD for good causes!
3; The Khmer Lesson (Cambodian For Foreigners)
Dara and his channel “Cambodian For Foreigners” is one of the best resources we’ve found for easy to understand and well explained Khmer Lessons. Khmer is the National language of Cambodia and whether you’re coming here to live, or you’re visiting on holiday, we highly recommend brushing up on your local words and phrases as not only will it make interacting with the locals a much more rewarding experience, they’ll also appreciate you putting in the effort! Even if you just want to learn the basics like ‘Hello’, ‘Thankyou’ or ‘One more beer please’ – It’ll go a long way!
Dara’s videos range in level from basic greetings, to words and phrases you might use at the local shopping markets, all the way to learning Sub-Consonants in Khmer written script. His channel includes both long form videos and shorts and he uploads regularly. We love his channel and he does all of this for FREE, so if you enjoy his content please consider sending him a tip via the information provided in his video descriptions. Dara is definitely one of the best Youtubers in Cambodia, and one of the best language channels we’ve come across in general.

4; Dave Does Cambodia
Dave is a Youtuber/Author who lives in Siem Reap, Cambodia and we love his videos due to their more casual, authentic style. Many of his videos are in the “Walk and Talk” style, so he’ll be talking to you about many topics whilst walking around the streets of Siem Reap with his camera so you can see lots of areas you’re unlikely to see from most Youtubers or travel vloggers. Dave made it to our list of the best Youtubers in Cambodia because despite being lower production value, his videos are super entertaining and contain tonnes of great information!
Dave’s videos contain some great tips and tricks for travelling to, or living in Cambodia without breaking the budget. He also talks about a lot of news topics and what day to day life is like living in Siem Reap, Cambodia. He also has some great informative videos on how the visa situation works, and how currency is used in Cambodia. His content is both long form videos and Youtube shorts.
5; The Khmer Times
The Khmer Times is a newspaper brand that has been based in Phnom Penh since 2014. Now you might notice that this addition to our list in incredibly different to all the others! But this channel made it to our list for one particular reason; newsreader Paulo Bonini and his weekly roundup videos.
Every Friday, Englishman Paulo takes to the stage and produces one of the most entertaining professional news roundups we’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. There’s not much else to say on this, except that we highly recommend watching his videos to get the top stories from Cambodia each week.
