The 5 Best Hostels in Siem Reap for Social Travellers
If you’re heading to Cambodia and looking for the best hostels in Siem Reap, chances are you’re after more than just a bed to crash in. This beautiful (little) city is the gateway to Angkor Wat, sure, but it’s also one of Southeast Asia’s top spots for meeting other travellers, especially if you’re flying solo.
Luckily, Siem Reap is packed with social hostels so whether you’re into rooftop bars, poolside meetups, wild parties, or just vibing with new friends over breakfast, you’ll have plenty of options. This list rounds up five of (in my opinion!) the best hostels in Siem Reap for social travellers, with a mix of styles and budgets, all with top reviews and great locations.
While these hostels are perfect for meeting people, Siem Reap itself has way more to offer than just temples and parties. If you’re planning a visit and want to make the most of your time here, check out my complete guide to Angkor Wat and this list of fun things to do in Siem Reap that aren’t temple-hopping.

All prices of hostels in Siem Reap can fluctuate massively depending on season and availability. If you’re visiting in high season prices will naturally be higher, but there’s some great deals to be found in low season. For this reason, take any prices in this article as a ROUGH GUIDE.

1. Onederz Hostel Siem Reap
If you ask almost anyone who’s stayed in Siem Reap for hostel recommendations, Onederz Hostel Siem Reap is probably one of the first names that comes up, and for good reason! Onederz Siem Reap has earned a rock solid reputation as one of the best hostels in Cambodia, and it hits the sweet spot between sociable and chilled.

Onederz Hostel isn’t a crazy intense party hostel, but it’s incredibly easy to meet people here and very social. The hostel has two beautiful pools – one on the rooftop and one downstairs – plus a breezy rooftop bar and restaurant with fantastic views over the river. Guests tend to gather here in the afternoons and evenings swapping travel stories and making plans for temple tours or pub crawls.
Onederz has lots of social day trips and activities, so you’ll have no trouble meeting new people!
The food at Onederz Siem Reap (Like all the other Onederz hostel locations) is incredible and great value for money. Plenty of people in town will specifically visit the hostel just to eat – it’s that good!
It’s in an unbeatable location too, just a 10 minute walk from Pub Street and even less to the Night Market, but tucked far enough back that you’re not kept awake by the Pub Street noise. Prices are around $10 – $14 USD for a dorm bed and $25 – $40 USD for private rooms, depending on the season.
The design and atmosphere of Onederz Siem Reap is incredible, making it a fantastic oasis in Siem Reap centre for relaxing, getting work done, meeting new people or having a few drinks!

2. Lub d Cambodia Siem Reap
For a more modern, boutique style hostel experience, Lub d is hard to beat. This one’s part of a popular Southeast Asian chain that’s known for quality and consistency, and their Siem Reap location is one of the best in the region. It’s sleek, spacious, and has everything a digital nomad or sociable solo traveller could need.
Lub d is designed with community in mind : From the big, stylish common areas to the huge swimming pool and regular social events like quiz nights and poolside BBQs. There’s also a coworking area and movie room, making it a great choice if you’re travelling and working remotely.

It’s located just East of the old market, in a quieter part of town across the river that’s still within easy walking distance to the centre and Pub Street. Expect to pay around $10 – $15 USD for dorms (which include privacy curtains, lockers, and reading lights) and $35 – $50 USD for private rooms. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for, this place is spotless and seriously well-run.
The areas around Lub D (Wat Damnak/Wat Bo) are also a great place to be. With some of Siem Reap’s best restaurants and bars located here (Special shoutout to Spin Bar!) you’ll have plenty of places to check out, all on your doorstep.
Lub d is also a great base if you’re planning to explore Siem Reap beyond the usual tourist trail. From floating villages and street food spots to local art spaces and rooftop bars, the town’s got plenty going on. I’ve put together a guide to the coolest things to do in Siem Reap that should give you plenty of inspiration.
3. Funky Village (formerly Funky Flashpacker)
If you’re coming to Siem Reap to party, Funky Village is the place to be. Formerly known as Funky Flashpacker, this hostel has rebranded in recent years, but it’s still very much the same wild and energetic place it always was. You’ll find great music, daily events, and no shortage of beer pong tournaments.

The hostel has a lovely pool, rooftop bar, late-night music, and live DJs – so it’s probably not the place to stay if you’re hoping for an early night. But if you want to meet fellow backpackers and have a proper night out (maybe every night!), it’s perfect. Despite the party vibes, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the dorms are surprisingly decent for the price.
Good, reasonably priced food is available right at the hostel, so if you’re not in the mood to explore town, you’ve got everything you need. Funky Village definitely deserves a place on our list of the best hostels in Siem Reap, and if you stay there you’ll understand why. Don’t expect the soulless vibes or corporate feel you frequently find at large chain hostels. Funky Village is a more traditional Southeast Asian hostel experience – which is a good thing!
Accommodation can be had for around $5 – $8 USD for dorms, and $10 – $25 USD for private rooms. But you might want to bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. You can also get some great long term deals here.

Funky village has no shortage of amenities, with their Pizza Garden restaurant (with lots of live music!), Indochine Restaurant, and even a nail salon! The road Funky Village is on (aptly named Funky Lane) has plenty of other bars, restaurants, tattoo shops, minimarts, barbers – well, anything you can think of! It’s also a short walk from Pub Street.
4. Mad Monkey Siem Reap
Another legendary name on the Southeast Asia backpacker circuit, Mad Monkey is a guaranteed good time. This hostel chain has locations all over the region, and their Siem Reap branch is one of the originals, with a loyal following of travellers who come for the social atmosphere and the epic bar.

The vibe here is friendly and inclusive. You’ll find people hanging out by the pool during the day, joining in on pub crawls and beer pong at night, and signing up for temple tours or countryside adventures through the hostel. There’s always something going on, and it’s easy to strike up conversations, whether you’re in the dorms, the bar, or lounging in a hammock.
Expect clean rooms with great amenities, and freidnly staff that will help you with anything you need.
Mad Monkey is just a short tuk-tuk ride (or 10–15 minute walk) from Pub Street, giving you a bit of a buffer from the chaos. Dorms start around $8 – $12 USD, and private rooms usually go from $25 – $35 USD. It’s a solid all round option for young travellers who want to party without compromising on comfort.

If you’re staying for more than a few days, you might want to mix things up and see what else Cambodia has to offer. From sleepy beach towns like Kep to the island vibes of Koh Rong, there’s plenty beyond Siem Reap, and I’ve written up some guides to help you plan it! Check out my guide to Kep Beach or learn what it’s really like to visit Koh Rong Island. Mad Monkey has hostels throughout Cambodia, so you could do a little Mad Monkey countrywide hostel crawl!
5. The Twizt – Lifestyle Hostel
The Twizt Lifestyle Hostel is a bit of a wildcard on this list because it doesn’t market itself as a traditional hostel, but it ticks all the boxes for a social traveller who wants a touch of luxury. This “lifestyle hostel” offers stylish dorms and private rooms inside a beautifully designed art deco building right in the centre of Siem Reap.
It’s perfect for flashpackers or travellers who want to meet people but aren’t interested in the loud party scene. The rooftop pool is a big highlight, with great views and a relaxing vibe during the day, while the attached bar and restaurant offer plenty of chances to mingle. The dorms are small and well designed, and the private rooms feel more like boutique hotel rooms than hostel ones.
Enjoying the beautiful sunset from the rooftop of the Twizt hostel is fantastic and well worth the slightly higher prices.
You’re looking at around $12 – $15 USD for a dorm bed, and $30 – $50 USD for a private room. It’s a bit more of a splurge, but worth it if you like your social hostels with a side of style.

Deciding between the best hostels in Siem Reap
If you’re wondering what the hostel scene is really like, you’ll be glad to hear that most of the best hostels in Siem Reap are far more than just a cheap place to crash. They’re lively, social spaces where there’s usually something going on (pub crawls, quiz nights, family dinners, and the occasional pool party).
All of the more reputable spots will also help you organise tours to must see Siem Reap sights like Angkor Wat and other nearby attractions, which makes planning your days super easy. If you’re travelling solo or just want a friendly base with a bit of atmosphere, staying in a social hostel is one of the simplest ways to meet people and get the most out of your time in the city.
If you’re after parties and chaos, Funky Village and Mad Monkey have you covered. If you prefer something more chilled and social, Onederz and Lub d are excellent picks. And if you want something a little bit fancier but still fun, The Twizt is a great shout.
Wherever you end up, Siem Reap is one of the friendliest places in Southeast Asia, and with hostels like these, you’re bound to make some unforgettable memories!
